That is so weird? If the solutions you have tried failed, than i couldn't think of any way to fix this.

I think I've heard of people having this same problem. Also, everyone I know of who has had any problem with their iPhone has been able to walk into an Apple store and get a new one. It's probably worth a try.

Bayliss: If only the 3G didn't come with a higher monthly price tag! I think I'll stick with the original for at least another year.

Zakk: Yes. It seems my final resort will be to return it.

Chris Masto: I've received nearly a dozen emails since posting this video saying the same thing. I'll be calling the "local" Apple Store at my next convenience.

It may be the firmware file your computer is using to restore. Search the internet for the iPhone 1.1.4 firmware and download it. Then go into iTunes and SHIFT+Click the restore button. That will allow you to choose the restore file you downloaded and you can restore with that.

Another issue may be when you restore with the backup. If a file is corrupted, your computer is still placing it back in the phone when you restore from backup. Try restoring as a new phone. It sucks to get all the settings to the way you like them but only takes about 10 mins.

Cory: Good call and I was thinking that'd be my next logical step. I'm going to do this tonight (when I know I won't be getting many phone calls) and will update this post either way. Thanks for letting me know about the SHIFT key modifier.

No Problem. I'm pretty sure its being caused from when you restore the phone from the backup but it wouldnt hurt to download another firmware file to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Corey: The SHIFT key modifier must be Windows-only because it is OPTION on the Macintosh. I'll update this post when the restore is finished with what resulted.

So nothing worked? Argh! WIll the Apple Store be able to replace it? I thought they were all sold out, or is that just the online store? Hope they can do that for you, or have some magical way to fix it!

Mark: I should be able to have it replaced. The Apple Store online is no longer selling iPhones but I'm pretty sure they do in-store. I'll keep this entry up-to-date.

I have about 5 dead letters but my screen is cracked. I cracked my screen more than six months ago right when they stopped replacing them for free. Do you think there is any chance they would be able to fix it or replace it for free still?
