Glenn: That is also a concern of mine. Typically my use of iPhoto is limited to when I am connected to my external display anyway, but on the off-chance that I am not at home, I'd still like to use Aperature.

That being said, Aperature's ability to keep thumbnails on the Macbook with all the high-res photos residing on an external drive - is making me want to make the jump early. Unless of course the next version of iPhoto has a similar feature.

I might also switch to Aperture, but not before I get a DSLR and a Mac with a larger display, the 17" display on this iMac is just too limiting for such an application. 20" should do me fine.

i've been using aperture for about a month now and it's great, but it kind of does other things, like it doesn't have the nice things iphoto has.. i dont know
