  • Bryan Culver · 3 years ago
I'm in. I am not developing a "gravitational field" but I do need to loose a bit of weight.
  • karmatosed · 3 years ago
I recently lost a lot of weight through changing my diet and starting yoga. I found by reducing the amount of wheat and diary and balancing more towards a vegetarian diet. Small changes like eating breakfast which is one meal a lot of people skip. Small changes often lead to big balance tips on the scales. Doing it as a group is a great way to support each other and when you are dieting that is what is definetly needed.
  • cavemonkey50 · 3 years ago
Count me in too. I've been dieting since February, so this will just be a continuation of my diet. I will release my current weight tomorrow on my website.
  • Mike Rundle · 3 years ago
    Yeah I'm down too.
  • Bonita in Pink · 3 years ago
    I'm down for it too.
My husband and I were talking about losing weight and reaching a goal just a week ago.
He said if I reach my goal of losing 20 lbs by the end of the year, he'd give me 1,000 dollars! haha
So I'll join you guys. For sure.

    I'm in!

    Metabolism ... slowing ... down ... as I get ... older.

Blogging doesn't help much either. :)

It'll be good to shed an extra pound or two.
  • Bryan Veloso · 3 years ago
I'm down. I have some weight I need to get rid of BADLY.
  • Arjan van der Gaag · 3 years ago
Yeah, I'm in too. It's beginning to show I'm behind the computer 23 hours a day.
  • Andrew Nelson · 3 years ago
Ill start by throwing up my lunch tomorrow.
  • Rida Al Barazi · 3 years ago
I'm very much interested, it's funny that I have started 10 days ago, but at least I have a better motive now to be with you in the contest.

Maybe we can share some ideas about our way of dieting too, as a start check The Hacker's Diet I really enjoyed reading it.
  • Nick Oder · 3 years ago
I'm in as well. I gained about 20 pounds over the last 5 months while down for the count with mononucleosis. I remember joking about the "kissing disease" back in middle school, but man, I had no idea it hit so hard.

So not only am I starting to freelance web design, I'm adding in losing 40 pounds (target: 200 pounds) too. The mono must have messed with my head more than I thought.
  • Tom Kim · 3 years ago
I'll join. I'm not so sure I'll change my diet so much as just move around more and sweat now that it's summer.
  • kristin · 3 years ago
Add me in on that. I'm up for the next step on my trip to a healthier lifestyle. This is a great idea, thanks for inviting everyone to join in.
  • Bonita in Pink · 3 years ago
Hey! You can use my real name, Ana Guerrero.
Bonita is my nick at my blog.

    Thanks!

Man, no diet for me. I need some weight gain! How about a transplant?
  • Eliza · 3 years ago
I lost over 20 pounds since March, but the last two weeks, I have gone off it. This will motivate me to start up again! I have about 30 to go!

  • Pablo · 3 years ago
I am definately in on this. I have several failed attempts at loosing weight. Perhaps a group effort can motivate me =)

  • James Mathias · 3 years ago
Sign me up, I've got quite a few extra pounds to shed.

    Cool idea for motivation.
  • Jessica Doyle · 3 years ago
Wow... my thoughts on the matter. Thanks for the opportunity to loose weight with others. I've got 30lbs to lose that were put on in four monthes. I am glad the summer is here.

    Good luck to everyone!
  • Alan M · 3 years ago
I desire to lose weight and gain some physical fitness. And no better time to get started than now,

As as a matter of fact, I just purchased a domain I intend to use as my fitness journal, fitnesslair.com. So joining "uber geeks" in this challenge may help motivate me to build my site quickly. :) Count me in.
  • Victoria Shephard · 3 years ago
I want to be in on this! I need some motivation since I am stalled!
  • josue salazar · 3 years ago
Wow I think we can file this under wildly successful, look how many people are up for it!

Good luck everyone, i'll be watching from the stands ;).
  • cristinamarie · 3 years ago
    sure!! I'm in.
  • Lindsay · 3 years ago
Cute idea! Anyone who reads my blog knows I'm well-versed in the weight struggle. I'd join up, but my case is a bit different I suppose. I just don't do diets anymore. I do a food plan and fitness for stress management. Much more effective approach for me. Plus I've ran more variations of 'diet' blogs than you can shake a stick at, hehe. I'll pass, but I wish you all health & success.
  • Derek · 3 years ago
Add me to the list. Although, I won't be trying to lose wait, I'll be trying to gain. No matter what I try - protein shakes, eating binges, weight time, etc - the pounds don't stick. I've been stuck at a 178lb mark (6'2") for the past four years. I think an extra 10-15 would do a body good.
  • Bonita in Pink · 3 years ago
Colin, you can add [and her Hubby] next to my name.
When I told my husband about it, he was down to accompany on my quest! LOL
We went to weigh in and jogged two miles today.
    Definitely pumped man!
  • Troy Rutter · 3 years ago
Count me in - Im at the same start as you, 225. Lets go!
  • Mary & Alan Clark · 3 years ago
This might help provide just enough motivation to finally lose a few pounds. Let's give it a shout and see what happens.
  • Joshua Lane · 3 years ago
Count me in for the weight-loss extravaganza! My goal is to lose 25lbs before my 10-year high-school reunion in October.
  • Richard Herrera · 3 years ago
Coincidentally enough, I started my diet today without knowledge of this contest. It'tl only help me motivate myself. I'm in!
  • Tracy Mudge · 3 years ago
Ok, This is just the motivation I need. When I first turned 30 I noticed a major increase in my wieght. I gained 30 pounds over last year. Most can not tell, but when you go to put on your clothes and they don't even come close to fitting, that is a definite indicator you have gained some weight. I have since then lost about 15 pounds. but I would love to get about another 10 off, or at least get in shape. I can't walk up my stairs without having an asthma attack.
  • Illtron · 3 years ago
You know I'm in. I just figured I'd say it again.
  • Bren · 3 years ago
    I'll join, I'm already down 10-15 pounds!!!
  • Frannie Lopez · 3 years ago
Well, I've already got the weightloss journal setup....now I just gotta join you all in this so that I can stay pretty accountable to SOMEONE. :) I got the pass to the gym as well...I'm ready to go! hehe.

    Count me in too.
  • Chris · 3 years ago
please add me to the list of people tired of watching their midline grow ever larger.
  • Juanita · 3 years ago
It seems that the only thing I have to lose is weight. I would like to partake in turning back the damage the fat stick has done to me. I would like to join in on the dieting fun!

Please add me too. This is just the push I need to get ready for summer.
  • Green Tea Blogger · 3 years ago
    Hi,

My name is Ariana but I prefer to use my screen name if you please. You have a nice and interesting blog site. I am not overweight by all means, only slightly bulky. I want to loose 10 - 15 lbs. I do not have a goal date. I think I would enjoy the support and watching others reach their goals too.
  • Meg · 3 years ago
Just started a low-carb diet on Monday. Pretty much like Atkins for the induction, and I'll probably stay on that for a while to get my blood sugar under control. With DM Type II running in our family I figured it's best to get it in check now.

Ideally I'd like to lost about 70 pounds, but I'd be happy with 40, which will put me back in a size 8 and get me to my pre-wedding shape ;).
  • jenz · 3 years ago
Time to get serious. Please sign me up. PS, fitday is pretty cool!
  • Ero San · 3 years ago
    I hate doing diets!
  • Russell H · 3 years ago
Hey, I've been doing something pretty similiar to this. Sign me up because I need all the motivation! I actually weigh in every day and then do a weekly average.
  • Elwing · 3 years ago
This will definitely be motivating! Now to find someone to use the camera for me - I'm terrible at self posing...
  • Troy Rutter · 3 years ago
Ack! Colin caught me doing ice cream on day 1!!! Ok, ok, Ive made up for it... I hope. :) Back on track!

    Bravo!for your brilliand idea
"Group loosing contest" is a very good way overweight people help each other in order to loose wait.
I use to do this whith my parents, well at least it helped them and i hope that now it is time for me to try seriously to loose weight, and help and motivate all the others here to do so,as i will be helped too.

YEah, I'm in. As a climber who now weighs over 300 lbs., something has to be done and I have to be the one to do it.
    How?
I'm going to start planning my meals for three days in advance AND I'M GOING TO PHOTOGRAPH EVERYTHING I EAT, WHICH I WILL POST ON A XANGA BLOG SITE. It's nice over there. I'm going to try the same thing with exercise sessions, showing me getting to the gym, etc.
    An actual eating plan?
Chicken. Chicken, chicken and chicken, with turkey when I get bored. I'll be pretty liberal with sauces and marinades (liberal in choices, not amounts-I'm not just gonna cook a pound of buitter and call it a sauce...). Basically, it's a simplified Atkins plan. In restaurants, I'll stick to salads.
Big problems will be going out for Thai after climbing or on weekends; I'll have to plan ahead, no side dishes.
My goal? My ultimate goal? 240. Wow. 240; less than I weighed in college.
    My goals this week:
    a. eliminate bread, crackers and chips
  • Linda · 3 years ago
I'm in! This is the inspiration I need to get back to my goal weight. I also want to clean up my eating habits and make better food choices. I don't have much to lose, but my goal includes maintaining my new weight for good. Thanks Colin (and everyone else participating). I'm cheering you on.
  • Erik Kastner · 3 years ago
I've got my own "diet" log at www.sixpackbysummer.com. I really love the idea of a social diet. Acutally, isn't that what Jenny Craig, Weight watchers, etc etc really do? Social!

  • Dan Lurie · 3 years ago
I'm in. I've been doing my own diety thing for a week or so already, but I cant resist the web 2.0ishness of this!
  • Christina Bosley · 3 years ago
Hi - I found your site through Lifehacker. Count me in - I need to be in better shape for my wedding.
  • Eric · 3 years ago
    Add me to the list!

and i'm making a flckr account now. (i know, shame on me. but i've got facebook!)
  • HART (1-800-HART) · 3 years ago
Sounds interesting Colin ... add me to your list please with the above URL .. I will be updating this with my own progress over the summer .. I'm on/was on Weight Watchers .. still count points but don't go to meetings or anything like that anymore - it's week 54 now - and I'm hovering around same mark. This could be good!

    Good luck to everybody.
  • G.R. · 3 years ago
I have been at this dieting for several months, but would love to join this group. Unlike those of you with a few extra pounds, I am clearly severely obese. My short term goal is to lose 40 pounds in the next 16 weeks and eventually to lose 75 pounds by years end.
  • Lindsey · 3 years ago
Oh, add me! I've been trying to loose weight for almost 4 months now and I'm not getting anywhere... lacking motivation mostly...
  • Ruby · 3 years ago
Hi, please add me to the group! Time to get rid of the post-wedding-can-finally-stop-dieting weight :)
  • LeKrapo · 3 years ago
Oh, I'm in too! I can do it one more time!
  • Jake Silver · 3 years ago
I like this idea a lot. I've been struggling to lose the 25 pounds I've put on in the past two years. It's not THAT big a deal... 165 to 140... but I've decided to finally shed it in 8 weeks for a "pool party" type wedding I'm attending. Good luck to everyone on their goals.
  • Patricia · 3 years ago
I'd love to be listed! I started keeping track back in February and it's helped a lot. I'm not all that comfortable releasing my current weight but I have been posting the bi-weekly results from my weigh-ins with the doctor.
  • timmy!!! · 3 years ago
i'm all for gettin in shape. my current weight is 205. i want to be at 185, like 2 months ago. and i wanna get a macbook too, and i want to meet maynard. i suppose one of those three will do.

This is a great idea. Count me in.

I've started a blog (long overdue) to help track my progress.

My blog can be found at http://www.joeperrin.com/blog

    Good luck with your goals!

    Joe.
  • Charlie · 3 years ago
Shortly after Christmas my doctor prescribed Mirtazapine, an antidepresant. At the time my weight was somewhere between 9 - 9.5 stone (130ish pounds) - I was underweight for my height (5'11). Like many other people, Mirtazapine caused my metabolism to slow and I gained 2stone (20% of my original weight). The drugs did work and I feel much better, but now want to have a healthy lifestyle and fight my depression and anxiety naturally.

Last Wednesday (1st June 2006) I embarked on my new health plan. I no longer smoke or take Mirtazapine, I eat at least 5 portions of fruit/Veg a day, do some form of daily exercise (usually tennis or cycling - but on Saturday I went punting!), drink 2litres of water a day (and no fizzy pop), and take daily vitamins. I also record my success on a chart each day which includes the amount of studying I have done and the amount of sleep I get.

My goal is to weigh 9.5 stone (133pounds).

I need help on dimishing the mass of this planet
  • Jess Anastasia · 3 years ago
I think this will be a good motivator for me. I've been struggling with weight issues since I was a kid and I haven't been able to keep the weight I lose off. Maybe this will help me do that. Count me in.
  • Dan Parker · 3 years ago
I just came across this site, add me to the list. I actually started April 10th when I was tired of carrying around 225-230 lbs. As of yesterday morning June 12th I was at 201. Looking for a target of 175-180. With a short term goal of hitting 190 by early-mid July.
  • Mr. Beer Belly · 2 years ago
Do you have "The Diet" running again this year?
  • Wally Hartshorn · 2 years ago
I stumbled across The Diet while on flickr and it sounds like a good source of motivation. I do have a mostly dormant blog where I can post updates, but I might wind up posting updates on flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/wallyhartshorn/. Maybe I'll create a set and post weekly photos of myself on weigh-in day. We'll see.

I'm 6'1" and in the neighborhood of 265. I'd like to be down below 190. We'll see.
  • urstudent · 2 years ago
Jeff Pulice.... well that sounds like a wounderful plan, but you did then again post this about a year ago or so. but i haven't heard about your weight loss yet....whats going on? if your plan does work then i would like to see it even the wounderfull pictures of you going the YMCA. well i guess we will be see you at pinks big guy and soon to be small guy. actually i am hoping you do loss weight for health reasons. and i would want my children to meet you and all that jazzy stuff.
